Lightning 02:50
We watched the birds from behind the blind All the little chickadees waiting in line Not worried for what wars may come tomorrow I want to fly that easily Free my mind of symmetry Let in the love and wisdom that would follow I'd take them to my heart straight as an arrow Waiting for lightning to strike like it did with you Easy as riding a bike like we used to do I took for granted the days at hand Falling in love and starting a band Were chapters I thought everyone was reading But tonight my prayers bounce back against the ceiling And I'm waiting for lightning to strike like it did with you Easy as riding a bike like we used to do Down the hill, around the bend Turning the wheels to make the magic again There's no law that says it won't So I'm hoping against all hope And I'm waiting for lightning to strike like it did with you Easy as riding a bike like we used to do ###

about

I had fun recording a fully produced 3-song EP at my friend's house this past summer, but I'm still not good at doing home recordings myself. Nevertheless, I've had this song "Lightning" bouncing around in my head for the past year. It came about when a lot was happening: the holidays, a new friendship, traditions with my daughters and remembering my own childhood, the loss of loved ones--it's just a flood of memories and future hopes and I had to get it out of my brain. I don't like to sing when other people in the house can hear me, so I recorded this tune straight into an iPhone while inside my car in a parking lot. (Sarcasm font activate) And though you surely can't tell, I made the cover art on the iPhone, too.
